We’re always drawn to new places and experiences.
Sometimes that means hopping on a plane to another country or taking a day trip to somewhere nearby. Other times it means spending time in our yard, cultivating our garden and building the space we always dreamed of.
We’ve found that some of our favorite experiences happen when we’re open to new adventure and experiences.
JAM Roaming is where we’ll share those experiences, along with the life we’re building around them.
Why JAM Roaming?
The “JAM” comes from our initials (James and Mary), but the name means more to us than that.
We liked the idea of roaming—not because we’re constantly traveling, but because we’re always looking for opportunities to explore. Sometimes that’s a new destination. Sometimes it’s a new hobby, a new food, a new trail, or a new way of doing things.
For us, curiosity has a way of making life feel more connected and grounded.
This site is a place to document that curiosity and hopefully inspire others to follow theirs.
Travel Is Part of the Life, Not an Escape From It
One thing we’ve realized over the years is that we don’t want to spend our lives waiting for retirement to start living.
We both work full-time, and like most people, we have responsibilities, deadlines, and busy schedules. But we’ve learned that adventure doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing.
A long weekend can turn into a memorable trip. A free afternoon can become a bike ride somewhere new. A plant sprouting in the backyard can remind you to appreciate up the small joys in life.
Travel isn’t something we do to escape our lives. It’s something that brings meaning and purpose to us.
Roaming and Growing
When we’re not traveling, you’ll usually find us at home working on some kind of project.
Lately, that means planting fruit trees, experimenting in the garden, and trying to create a space that feels just as rewarding as the places we visit.
The more we travel, the more we appreciate our home base. A place we’ve worked hard to build a lifestyle around.
And the more time we spend at home, the more excited we get to head out and explore.
Those two things might seem opposite, but for us they’ve become deeply connected.
That’s why you’ll find both travel and gardening here. One helps us discover the world. The other helps us strengthen our roots.

That idea has become something of a guiding principle for us.
Explore widely. Stay curious. Take the scenic route. Say yes to experiences that make life more interesting.
Grow deeply. Invest in relationships. Learn new skills. Plant something. Build a life you’re excited to come back to.
We’re still figuring it all out as we go, but that’s part of the fun.
